Los Angeles County,
I am proud to lead your Sheriff’s Department, the largest in the nation, with nearly 17,000 sworn and professional staff who courageously serve our communities in some of the most challenging situations.
As the top law enforcement officer in LA County, I have prioritized keeping our communities safe and bringing new leadership, stability and accountability to the Sheriff’s Department.
Since I became Sheriff, violent crime has fallen every year in the areas patrolled by LASD.
Sincerely,

SHERIFF ROBERT LUNA
34th Sheriff of Los Angeles County
Growing up in unincorporated East Los Angeles, from a poor Latino immigrant family, Luna’s neighborhood was patrolled by the Sheriff’s Department. He saw examples of both good and bad policing, which inspired him to become an officer and shaped his philosophy on relationship-based policing specifically in communities of color.

Today, Sheriff Luna is running for reelection to continue his successful leadership of the nation's largest Sheriff's Department.

Prior to his election as Sheriff in November 2022, Luna served seven years as Long Beach Chief of Police, capping a 36-year career at the Long Beach Police Department, the county’s second largest police department.
MY PRIORITIES FOR THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
As Sheriff, I have focused on five priorities in the Sheriff’s Department:
Reduce Violent Crime
Increase Public Trust
Modernize the Department
Address Homelessness
Improve Deputy and Employee Wellness
